Jinling Shipyard delivers 62,000 dwt multi-purpose vessel to China Merchants
New Multi-Purpose Vessel Launched by China Merchants

A significant milestone in maritime innovation was marked with the recent handover and naming ceremony of a state-of-the-art 62,000 dwt ultra-flexible multi-purpose vessel. Built by China Merchants Industry Nanjing Jinling for China Merchants Shipping, this vessel represents the first of four in the ‘Mingrong’ series, designed to be energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. The event underscores the growing collaboration between the two companies in advancing shipbuilding technology.
Innovative Design and Features
The newly launched vessel is a product of cutting-edge design, crafted by the Shanghai Ship Design Institute (SDARI) and classified by the China Classification Society (CCS). Measuring 199.9 meters in length, 32.26 meters in width, and 19.0 meters in depth, the ship boasts a maximum speed of 14.4 knots. Its design incorporates Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) optimized lines, enhancing its efficiency on the water.
Equipped with five cargo holds and four cranes on the port side, the vessel can lift up to 300 tons. It also features advanced energy-saving technologies, including large-diameter propeller thrusters that comply with the international Ship Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) PHASE 3 standards. Additionally, the ship is set to include an energy efficiency management system developed by China Merchants Industry, with plans to integrate the IMP management system from China Merchants Shipping in the near future.
Commitment to Collaboration and Innovation
Zheng Hehui, Deputy General Manager of China Merchants Industry and Chairman of Nanjing Jinling, emphasized the importance of this delivery as a pivotal moment in the ongoing collaboration between the two companies. He stated that this achievement would serve as a new starting point for future projects, reinforcing their commitment to safety, quality, and efficiency while promoting greener, smarter, and more digital shipbuilding practices.
Xu Hui, Deputy General Manager of China Merchants Shipping, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the vessel as a testament to the deepening partnership between the two organizations. He expressed optimism that both companies would continue to drive innovation in shipbuilding and shipping services, aiming to create new successes in the dry bulk shipping sector.
In a related development, earlier this April, Jinling Shipyard celebrated the handover of the BYD Shenzhen, a 9,200 CEU dual-fuel car carrier, which is touted as the largest car carrier ever delivered globally. This further illustrates the shipyard’s commitment to pioneering advancements in maritime technology.
