JNPA targets a capacity upgrade to 10 million teus by April 2025
JNPA to Boost Container Handling Capacity and Infrastructure Development
The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) intends to upgrade to 10.4 million TEUs by April of the following year, a major increase in its capacity for handling containers. This comes after the port had a great showing in the first half of FY25, handling 7.4 million TEUs, more than the 6.4 million TEUs handled in the fiscal year 2023–2024. The improvement is a component of JNPA’s larger plan to boost operational effectiveness and meet rising demand.
As a landlord port, JNPA’s primary responsibility is infrastructure management; day-to-day operations are left to private enterprises. The port’s continuous attempts to create environmentally friendly infrastructure demonstrate its dedication to sustainability. By using this strategic strategy, JNPA can stay at the forefront of contemporary port administration and still adhere to international environmental requirements.

To boost infrastructure projects, JNPA has also recently inked two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), including one with Vadhvan Port and REC for loan release. Additionally, concessionaires operating within the port’s Special Economic Zone (SEZ) have received Letters of Intent (LoI). JNPA was successful in allocating 57 acres in the most recent e-auction for Phase 7, where bids exceeded the reserve price by 95.23%. As a result, JNPA’s revenue increased by 63%, highlighting the port’s increasing economic importance.
