Lamprell Picks IMI For Offshore Platforms And Jackets
Lamprell, a renowned offshore engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) company, has recently entered into a significant agreement with International Maritime Industries (IMI) to fabricate multiple offshore structures. These structures include a production platform and jackets and will be constructed at IMI’s Ras Al-Khair facility in Saudi Arabia.
Expanding Scope at IMI’s Ras Al-Khair Yard
This collaboration marks a milestone as it represents the first offshore production platform and jacket fabrication scope to be undertaken at IMI’s Ras Al-Khair yard. This move signifies an expansion of the facility’s operations beyond shipbuilding, showcasing IMI’s commitment to diversify its services in the maritime industry.
Enhancing Capabilities and Industrial Capacity
IMI, a joint venture between Aramco, Lamprell, Bahri, and Hyundai Heavy Industries, with Lamprell being one of its founding shareholders, aims to enhance its offshore construction capabilities through this partnership. By leveraging Lamprell’s expertise in offshore EPCI and fabrication, IMI is set to strengthen its local industrial capacity in Saudi Arabia.
IMI’s Ras Al-Khair facility, strategically located on Saudi Arabia’s eastern coast, is a hub for shipbuilding, offshore rig construction, and vessel maintenance and repair. Once fully operational, the yard is expected to build six offshore rigs and over 40 vessels annually, catering to various maritime needs, including very large crude carriers.
While the financial terms, the quantity of structures to be fabricated, and the project delivery schedule have not been disclosed, this collaboration between Lamprell and IMI signifies a significant step towards advancing offshore construction capabilities in the region.
By diversifying its services and expanding its operations at IMI’s Ras Al-Khair yard, Lamprell and IMI are poised to play a pivotal role in enhancing Saudi Arabia’s energy sector and contributing to the growth of the maritime industry in the region.
