New Mangaluru Port Welcomes Luxury Cruise Ship

Mangaluru, Karnataka, is making waves in the cruise tourism sector. On December 27, the New Mangaluru Port Authority (NMPA) welcomed the luxury cruise ship Seven Seas Voyager. This event marks a significant milestone for the port as it aims to establish itself as a premier global cruise destination. Operated by the Norwegian Cruise Line, the Seven Seas Voyager arrived at 6:30 AM and departed at 5:30 PM, bringing with it a unique experience for its passengers.

A Grand Arrival

The Seven Seas Voyager is an impressive vessel. It measures 206.5 meters in length and has a gross registered tonnage (GRT) of 42,363. The ship carried 650 passengers and 450 crew members, all eager to explore the beauty of Karnataka. The cruise is part of an itinerary that includes stops at various locations, such as Fujairah, Mumbai, Goa, New Mangaluru, and Cochin, before heading to Colombo.

Upon arrival, passengers received a warm welcome that showcased Karnataka’s rich cultural heritage. Local cultural troupes performed classical and folk dances, creating an immersive experience. The port’s reception area was beautifully decorated with traditional motifs, enhancing the festive atmosphere. This warm reception is part of NMPA’s efforts to make the port a vital gateway for international tourists.

Exploring Karnataka’s Rich Heritage

To enrich their visit, the NMPA organized guided tours to some of Karnataka’s most iconic attractions. One highlight was the Gomateshwara Temple in Karkala, known for its 42-foot monolithic statue of Bahubali. This temple is an important Jain heritage site and draws visitors from around the world. Another architectural marvel on the itinerary was the Thousand Pillar Temple in Moodbidri. This temple is famous for its intricate carvings and reflects the cultural zenith of the region’s past.

Visitors also had the chance to explore Soans Farm, which is known for its sustainable practices and exotic fruit cultivation. The Kalbhavi Cashew Factory offered insights into local agricultural practices, while the Gokarnanatheshwara Temple provided a spiritual experience. Travelers could also wander through bustling local markets, where they found handcrafted souvenirs and indulged in the region’s culinary delights.

The arrival of the Seven Seas Voyager follows the visit of MS Silver Whisper, which marked the beginning of this year’s cruise season at NMPA. With the consistent arrival of luxury cruise liners, the port is well on its way to becoming a key player in the cruise tourism industry in coastal Karnataka.
