Leadership change at Blue Water Shipping
Blue Water Appoints Thomas Bek as New CEO

Danish shipping and logistics company Blue Water has announced the appointment of Thomas Bek as its new chief executive officer, succeeding Søren Nørgaard Thomsen, who has led the company for the past seven years. Bek, who began his career at Blue Water as a freight forwarding trainee nearly three decades ago, assumes the role immediately. His promotion follows a period of significant growth for the company, which has nearly doubled its turnover since 2018.
Leadership Transition and Strategic Focus
The leadership change comes at a pivotal time for Blue Water, which recently introduced a new strategy and organizational structure aimed at enhancing its global competitiveness. Board chairman Jørgen Wisborg emphasized that this transition is essential for aligning with the next phase of the company’s strategic goals. “Søren has made a great effort to strengthen Blue Water. But we believe a different profile is needed to execute our new strategy,” Wisborg stated. He highlighted Bek’s extensive understanding of the company and his role as a strong ambassador for its core values.
Under the new 2030 strategy, Blue Water aims to focus on three key areas: creating an attractive workplace, maintaining high service levels for customers, and improving profitability through operational efficiency and increased market share. Bek expressed his commitment to these goals, stating he approaches his new role with “pride and humility.” He acknowledged the importance of preserving the company’s culture while adapting to the unpredictable nature of global markets and supply chains. “Our foundation is solid, and we’ve made a good start in implementing the new strategy. But the markets and supply chains remain unpredictable, so we must stay ready to adapt,” he remarked.
