Leadership change at Nanjing Tanker

Nanjing Tanker Appoints New Chairman Following Resignation

Nanjing Tanker, the Shanghai-listed company under the China Merchants Group, has announced a significant leadership change. Yi Zhang has stepped down from his role as chairman due to job transitions, a position he held since April 2022. The board has swiftly elected Lei Ding, the vice president at China Merchants Energy Shipping, to succeed him and steer the company forward.

Leadership Transition and Experience

Yi Zhang’s resignation marks a pivotal moment for Nanjing Tanker. Throughout his tenure, Zhang was instrumental in navigating the company through various operational challenges. His background includes roles as deputy general manager at China Merchants Port Holdings and chief operational officer at China Merchants Port Group, showcasing a wealth of experience in the maritime sector.

In contrast, Lei Ding brings a diverse and rich portfolio to his new position. At 52 years old, Ding has built a notable career in the shipping industry. Before taking on the role at Nanjing Tanker, he was the general manager at Hong Kong Ming Wah Shipping. His previous experience also includes serving as deputy general manager of COFCO Keystone Supply Chain Investment and leading China Merchants Logistics. Ding’s extensive background positions him well to guide Nanjing Tanker through its ongoing fleet renewal program, which includes a series of new tanker builds planned at domestic shipyards.

Nanjing Tanker, established in 1993, currently oversees a fleet of over 70 ships. The company’s proactive approach to fleet modernization reflects its commitment to maintaining competitiveness in the maritime industry. As Ding steps into the chairman role, stakeholders are keen to see how his leadership will influence the company’s strategic direction in the coming years.
