Lloyd’s Register Partners with DYNAMARINe for STS Audits

Lloyd’s Register (LR) has announced a strategic partnership with DYNAMARINe to implement an independent auditing scheme for ship-to-ship (STS) service providers. This collaboration aims to enhance safety and quality standards in the maritime industry by aligning with the guidelines set forth by the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF). The initiative is designed to streamline the auditing process and improve the reliability of STS operations globally.

Enhancing Safety and Standardization in STS Operations

Under the new agreement, auditors from Lloyd’s Register will evaluate STS service providers based on established quality and safety standards derived from OCIMF guidelines, as well as risk data and records provided by DYNAMARINe. After the audits are conducted, DYNAMARINe will review the reports and assign a performance score to each service provider. This systematic approach is intended to create a consistent and trustworthy framework for assessing the competence of STS operators worldwide.

This initiative directly supports the goals of the recently updated OCIMF STS Guide, which emphasizes the need for independent verification of service providers’ self-assessments. Furthermore, it aims to minimize the redundancy of audits within the energy sector, paving the way for a standardized assurance model akin to the Ship Inspection Report Programme (SIRE), specifically designed for STS service providers.

Ehud Bar-Lev, Business Development Manager at LR, stated that this partnership is a significant advancement in their ongoing efforts to enhance safety and sustainability in maritime operations. He emphasized that by merging LR’s auditing expertise with DYNAMARINe’s technical leadership, they are enabling energy companies and service providers to operate with increased confidence and accountability.

First of Its Kind Collaboration in Maritime Safety

Dr. Alexandros Glykas, Managing Director of DYNAMARINe, expressed that the collaboration with Lloyd’s Register embodies a mutual commitment to improving safety and environmental responsibility in STS transfers. He highlighted that by working together, they can provide assurance to tanker operators and energy companies while acknowledging the continuous improvement efforts of service providers.

This agreement marks a notable milestone as it is the first instance of an International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) member directly engaging in the auditing of STS service providers. This reinforces Lloyd’s Register’s leadership role in maritime safety and assurance, while also reflecting its strategic intent to broaden its advisory and risk management services into new operational domains that require independent verification and trust.
