Longship Group Expands Eco-Friendly Fleet
Longship Group, a Netherlands-based shortsea operator, is making significant strides in enhancing its fleet of eco-friendly general cargo vessels. The company has recently signed contracts for two additional GS Eco-Freighters, each with a deadweight tonnage (dwt) of 3,700. This latest order comes from GS Projects and Ship and Steelbuilding (SaS) located in Waterhuizen, further solidifying Longship’s commitment to sustainable shipping practices. The new vessels are expected to be delivered in the second and third quarters of 2025, marking a notable expansion in Longship’s operations.
Recent Orders and Deliveries
The recent order for the two GS Eco-Freighters follows a previous acquisition of two similar ships, which have already been delivered and named Longsun and Longsky. These vessels were part of a collaborative project with Norwegian broker Wagle Chartering. The addition of these new ships reflects Longship’s strategic focus on modernizing its fleet with environmentally friendly options. The company has committed to financing these vessels, which will operate under five-year time charter agreements. In addition to the recent orders, Longship has also placed orders for 8,600 dwt newbuilds at Atlas Shipyard in Turkey last year. Furthermore, a series of 6,000 dwt vessels are scheduled for delivery starting in 2026 from GS yard.
