LR Type Approval for Zelim Swift Man Overboard Recovery System
Zelim's SWIFT System Receives Lloyd's Register Type Approval
Zelim’s SWIFT man overboard recovery device has achieved full type approval from Lloyd’s Register, a key milestone that opens the door for its widespread adoption across the maritime industry. This approval signifies that the SWIFT system meets rigorous safety standards, making it a reliable tool for improving sea survival outcomes.
The certification was granted after the SWIFT system successfully completed comprehensive in-water performance tests at Fleetwood Testing Laboratory and endured challenging conditions during Heavy Weather Sea Trials. These trials included a demonstration at a windfarm offshore Ramsgate, where the SWIFT system showcased its capability by recovering a test dummy two nautical miles offshore in high sea states, performing the rescue in less than a minute—far surpassing the efficiency of conventional man overboard equipment.

The SWIFT system is a treadmill-like conveyor belt attached to a rescue craft’s stern or side, designed to pull both conscious and unconscious individuals from the water swiftly. Powered by a 240v motor, the system is easily deployed, ensuring that casualties are quickly brought to safety once they come into contact with the conveyor belt. This innovative approach, developed by search and rescue professionals, has been demonstrated to work effectively even in adverse conditions, marking a significant advancement in maritime safety.
