Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd Announce Gemini Cooperation for Enhanced Ocean Network
Maersk A/S and Hapag-Lloyd AG will officially launch the Gemini Cooperation, a strategic collaboration aimed at creating a flexible, interconnected ocean freight network. This initiative is designed to achieve a high level of schedule reliability, targeting over 90% efficiency once fully operational. Since its announcement in January 2024, both companies have been diligently working to finalize the details of their joint network for East-West trade routes.
With the launch just five months away, Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd have shared updates on service maps and network improvements. Additionally, the collaboration includes an alternative Cape of Good Hope route due to ongoing disruptions in the Red Sea, ensuring the network remains adaptable and resilient. This partnership marks a significant step forward in optimizing global trade routes.

Maersk, a global logistics leader, operates in over 130 countries, managing a fleet of approximately 700 vessels with a capacity exceeding 4 million TEU. Similarly, Hapag-Lloyd, one of the world’s largest liner shipping companies, boasts a fleet of 287 container ships and a robust terminal network, further enhancing the scope of the Gemini Cooperation. Both companies are committed to sustainable shipping and aim to strengthen global supply chain connections through this collaboration.
