Maine Maritime Academy Cadets Awarded Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Scholarship
Two exceptional cadets from Maine Maritime Academy have been honored with the Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarship. Anna LaDue and Odegaard Fields were selected for this prestigious award based on their outstanding performance during their training periods aboard Crowley-operated or managed vessels. Their commitment to pursuing careers in the maritime industry further distinguished them as deserving recipients of this scholarship.
Profiles of the Awardees
Anna LaDue, a junior from Canterbury, New Hampshire, is majoring in marine transportation operations with a minor in sail training. Her leadership skills shine through her role as the Assistant Officer in Charge for the academy’s Delta Company during the 2024 training year. LaDue has consistently demonstrated academic excellence, making the Dean’s List for three consecutive semesters. Beyond her studies, she actively participates in various extracurricular activities. She is a member of the climbing club, the singing ensemble, and the Women on the Water group. Additionally, she contributes to the Environmental Action Club and serves on her school’s Student Athletic Advisory Committee. LaDue’s ambition is to sail on tankers after completing her training aboard the Crowley-managed tanker, American Pride, in the summer of 2024.
Odegaard Fields, also a junior, hails from New Marlborough, Massachusetts. He is pursuing a degree in marine transportation operations, similar to LaDue. Fields takes on multiple responsibilities at the academy. He serves as a small vessel handling instructor and a terrestrial navigation teaching assistant. He is also a member of the George C. Previll Memorial Inter-Academy Monomoy Challenge team. Fields has gained valuable experience sailing as a cadet on the American Pride. After graduation, he aspires to work as a deck officer on a tanker or an offshore wind supply vessel, contributing to the evolving maritime industry.

Since its inception, the scholarship program has provided over $3 million in financial assistance to more than 1,000 students. These students are enrolled in maritime academies and other select institutions across the United States mainland, Puerto Rico, and Central America.
