Massive Container Ship Docks at PSA Keppel Terminal
This week, the West Coast Highway has become a focal point for ship enthusiasts as the colossal container ship Ever Genius made its appearance at PSA Singapore’s Keppel Terminal. The Panama-flagged vessel arrived on Monday morning, captivating onlookers with its impressive size and capacity.
Ever Genius: A Maritime Marvel
The Ever Genius, measuring an astonishing 400 meters in length, is among the largest container ships in the world. It has the capacity to transport 20,124 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), making it a significant player in global shipping. Built in 2018 by Imabari Shipbuilding in Japan, the ship is currently operated by a subsidiary of Evergreen Marine.
For context, the world’s largest container ship, Irina, is nearly the same length but boasts a capacity of 24,346 TEUs. Operated by the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), Irina highlights the competitive nature of the shipping industry. The arrival of Ever Genius has sparked excitement among ship spotters, with social media posts celebrating its docking receiving thousands of likes. One Instagram user noted the rarity of such sightings in the area, attributing it to the ongoing consolidation of container terminals at the upcoming Tuas mega port.
Despite the excitement, some users humorously speculated about the contents of the ship, joking that their online purchases from Taobao might be among the cargo. According to reports, Ever Genius is scheduled to depart at 3 AM on Thursday, leaving behind a trail of awe and fascination.
The Future of Singapore’s Port Infrastructure
Looking ahead, Singapore’s port infrastructure is set for a significant transformation with the development of the Tuas Port, expected to be completed in the 2040s. Once operational, it will become the world’s largest fully automated port, capable of handling an impressive 65 million TEUs annually—almost double the current capacity of Singapore’s ports.

Currently, Tuas Port has 12 operational berths and has already made strides in handling container traffic. In 2025, Singapore’s ports achieved a record high of 44.66 million TEUs, surpassing the previous year’s total of 41.12 million. The new $647.5 million supply chain hub at Tuas, set to launch in 2027, will further enhance Singapore’s position as a premier port of call.
Constructed by Soilbuild, the hub will facilitate the consolidation of cargoes, allowing businesses to optimize shipping efficiency and reduce costs. It will also enable the processing and redistribution of partially loaded containers. During the groundbreaking ceremony in October 2024, PSA International’s Group Chairman Peter Voser emphasized that the new hub will strengthen the network, positioning Tuas as a critical node in the global supply chain system.
