ME-GI Engines Continue to Set Industry Standards with Unmatched Efficiency and Low Methane Slip

Eastern Pacific Shipping Chooses ME-GI Engines for New Fleet Amidst Container Boom

New Times Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. in Jiangsu province, China, has placed an order for 12 ME-GI (-Gas Injection) Mk10.5 main engines from MAN Energy Solutions. These engines will power 12 newly constructed 18,000 TEU container vessels for Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS). This order highlights the continued reliance on the ME-GI engine, known for its exceptional fuel efficiency and minimal methane slip, during the current surge in container shipbuilding.

Bjarne Foldager, Country Manager for Denmark at MAN Energy Solutions, emphasized the significance of this order, noting that it reflects the strong relationship between EPS and MAN Energy Solutions. He highlighted the ME-GI engine’s popularity in the Very Large Container Vessel segment, attributing its success to the ongoing building boom in the industry. Foldager expressed gratitude to EPS for their continued trust and collaboration in these latest projects.

Shipbuilding Projects with Ammonia Engines Firm Up

Thomas S. Hansen, Head of Two-Stroke Sales and Promotion at MAN Energy Solutions, praised the ME-GI engine for its mature technology, which offers shipowners a future-proof solution with extremely low levels of methane slip. He also pointed out that the engine’s top-tier fuel efficiency has led to its selection for over 60 newbuilds in just the past two months. The ME-GI engine’s ability to operate on bio-methane and synthetic natural gas further positions it as a viable option for achieving net-zero emissions, providing a clear pathway for decarbonization in the shipping industry.

The ME-GI engine has set a new industry standard for environmentally friendly, high-efficiency two-stroke propulsion across various vessel types, including RoRo ships, bulk carriers, tankers, and LNG carriers. Its design ensures reliable operation during load changes, seamless fuel switching, and compliance with the highest environmental standards in the LNG-fueled engine segment. MAN Energy Solutions has also expanded its dual-fuel portfolio with the ME-LGI engine, enabling the use of sustainable fuels such as green methanol.
