Meadway Bulkers reveals ultramax order in Japan

Meadway Bulkers Expands Fleet with New Order

Meadway Bulkers, a Greek shipping company led by George Dellaportas, has announced a significant expansion of its fleet by placing an order for an additional ultramax vessel. The new ship, with a deadweight tonnage of 64,000, will be constructed at Imabari Shipbuilding in Japan and is expected to be delivered in the second quarter of 2027. This order comes as part of the company’s broader strategy to enhance its shipbuilding program.

Strategic Growth in Shipbuilding

Founded in 2021, Meadway Bulkers has quickly established itself in the maritime industry. The company currently operates a fleet of 15 vessels and has been actively pursuing new construction projects to bolster its capabilities. Prior to this latest order, Meadway Bulkers had already secured contracts for three ultramax vessels at the Tsuneishi Zhoushan shipyard in China, with deliveries scheduled through 2026.

The addition of the new ultramax will bring the total number of newbuilds to six over the next two years. In addition to the ultramaxes, Meadway Bulkers is also set to receive two handysize vessels from Namura Shipbuilding, with expected delivery in the first quarter of 2026. This strategic expansion reflects the company’s commitment to enhancing its operational capacity and meeting the growing demands of the shipping industry.

Meadway Bulkers operates under the leadership of George Dellaportas, while his brother Costas continues to manage the original company, Meadway Shipping & Trading, which has since rebranded as DryDel Shipping. The ongoing growth of Meadway Bulkers highlights the dynamic nature of the shipping sector and the competitive strategies employed by companies to secure their positions in the market.
