MOL Museum Set to Launch in Osaka This July

TOKYO – Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL), led by President & CEO Takeshi Hashimoto, has announced the grand opening of the MOL Museum “Funeshiru” on Saturday, July 19, 2025. This interactive museum, located at the Asia and Pacific Trade Center (ATC) in Suminoe-ku, Osaka, aims to illuminate the ocean shipping industry’s significance in everyday life. Visitors can expect a range of engaging exhibits that showcase the scale of shipping and the technological advancements of the MOL Group.
Interactive Exhibits Highlight Shipping Industry
The MOL Museum “Funeshiru” will feature a variety of hands-on displays designed to educate visitors about the ocean shipping sector. One of the main attractions will be a stunning 30-meter-wide theater that presents the vital role of shipping in daily life, accompanied by models of current MOL Group vessels. Additionally, interactive art installations will allow visitors to contribute by creating moving pictures of ships that will be displayed on museum walls.
In a dedicated area focused on the various jobs within the shipping industry, guests can engage with simulators and illustrated panels that detail the roles of officers and engineers. A highlight of this section is Japan’s first ship-handling simulator for the general public, featuring a 310-degree screen that offers an immersive experience in maritime operations. This hands-on approach aims to provide insights into the complexities and excitement of working in the shipping industry.
Furthermore, the museum will delve into the history and future of the MOL Group. Informational panels will chronicle the company’s evolution and current initiatives. Visitors can also participate in a fun photo opportunity by trying on seafarers’ uniforms in a dedicated photo booth, capturing a memorable moment of their visit.
Dining and Shopping Experience at the Museum
The MOL Museum will include a café that serves original dishes inspired by the theme “Let’s try food brought across the ocean,” featuring items like unique curries. The on-site shop will offer a variety of original products, perfect for souvenirs or gifts that remind visitors of their museum experience. Notably, admission to the café and shop will be free, allowing non-museum guests to enjoy these amenities while attending events or shopping at the ATC.
Details regarding admission fees, operating hours, and closure days will be announced soon, along with the launch of an official museum website. The creation of the MOL Museum stems from ideas generated through the MOL Incubation Bridge program, which encourages employees to explore innovative concepts that benefit the public and showcase the industry’s contributions to society.
As the MOL Group continues to prioritize sustainable growth and community engagement, the new museum is expected to play a pivotal role in promoting awareness about the importance of the shipping industry in our daily lives.
