MOL to Build Logistic Center on Kobe’s Port Island
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) is building a large logistics center in the Port of Kobe, Japan. This center will include three warehouses: two designed for safely storing dangerous goods and one for general cargo. MOL expects this new facility to be ready by spring 2026, providing important services for businesses that import and export goods.
MOL’s decision to build this center is part of a big plan called “BLUE ACTION 2035.” This plan aims to make MOL’s business strong and reliable, even when the shipping industry is struggling. By investing in areas outside of regular shipping, MOL is working to ensure steady growth and profits. Building warehouses for storage is a big part of this strategy, helping MOL manage and grow its logistics business in addition to its main shipping operations.
A part of the MOL Group called Japan Express Co., Ltd., will operate this new logistics center. Japan Express is well-known for handling cargo shipments that include dangerous goods, especially at the Port of Kobe. The new warehouses on Port Island will increase Japan Express’s ability to handle these types of products. Currently, Japan Express operates another warehouse near Rokko Island for similar cargo. By adding two new warehouses, MOL will offer companies more convenient, secure, and efficient storage options.
MOL has had a strong presence at the Port of Kobe for over 100 years, and the company sees the port as a crucial part of its operations. Besides shipping, MOL is also active in other areas like logistics, tugboat services, and real estate. Last year, MOL made plans to expand the Kobe International Container Terminal, another important part of its presence at the port.
MOL Expands Logistics Infrastructure in Southeast Asia with New Advanced Warehouses
The new logistics center on Port Island is designed with safety and reliability in mind. For example, the warehouses are built on high floors to protect goods from storm surges. They also include backup power sources in case of emergencies. This means that businesses using MOL’s services can feel confident that their goods are stored in a safe and well-equipped facility.
The structure of the logistics center will include one large, three-story warehouse for general cargo and two one-story warehouses specifically designed for dangerous goods. The entire space will cover approximately 12,000 square meters. MOL aims to make shipping and storage services smooth and reliable for its customers, contributing to the Port of Kobe’s ongoing growth.
With this new development, MOL hopes to strengthen its role as a top logistics provider in the region, offering safe and efficient services for companies dealing with sensitive or hazardous cargo.
