Monaco Celebrates 25 Years of Marine Conservation
As the Pelagos Agreement marks its 25th anniversary, Monaco reaffirms its commitment to marine conservation. This trilateral initiative, established in 1999 between Monaco, France, and Italy, has played a crucial role in protecting marine mammals and their habitats in the Mediterranean Sea. The anniversary was celebrated during a workshop at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, showcasing the significant achievements of the Agreement. Monaco’s dedication to safeguarding ocean ecosystems is evident in its ongoing efforts and partnerships aimed at enhancing marine conservation.
Significant Achievements of the Pelagos Agreement
Over the past 25 years, the Pelagos Agreement has led to vital conservation efforts in the Mediterranean region. One of its key accomplishments is the establishment of protected zones that provide safe havens for marine mammals. These zones are essential for the survival of species such as dolphins and whales, which face numerous threats from human activities.
