Mumbai Port Authority Will Build A Marina In The Sea Using The EPC Model
Mumbai Port Authority to Build Marina on Water, Abandons Land Plan
The Mumbai Port Authority has decided to build a new marina in the water, changing its earlier plan of constructing it on land. Originally, the port had planned to develop the marina using the public-private partnership (PPP) model. However, now they will use their funds to complete the project.
The port authority had issued two tenders for the marina project. After making some changes to the project details, no bidders came forward to participate in the revised tender. The initial plan required the winning bidder to invest a huge amount—Rs 575.19 crores. This investment was meant to design the marina and its supporting systems. The marina was to cover an area of 9.02 hectares of land and offer space for at least 300 yachts and pleasure boats of different sizes.

Mumbai is home to a large number of privately owned recreational boats. Currently, there is no dedicated marina in the city, so about 200 small boats are parked near the Gateway of India. This situation has created a clear need for a marina that can properly accommodate these boats.
The Mumbai Port Authority previously said that they see this marina as an important step toward promoting the city’s growth and encouraging maritime tourism. The new marina will feature all the modern amenities found in the best marinas around the world. The port authority believes that the marina will not only boost the city’s development but also highlight Mumbai’s rich history and cultural significance.
