New Documentary Unveils Mystery of the Edmund Fitzgerald

Discover Wisconsin, the longest-running travel and tourism television series in the United States, has unveiled the official trailer for its upcoming documentary, “The 50-Year Mystery of the Edmund Fitzgerald.” Scheduled to premiere on November 10, 2025, this production marks the 50th anniversary of the tragic sinking of the famed bulk carrier in Lake Superior. The documentary promises to delve into one of the Great Lakes’ most captivating stories.

Two Formats for a Timeless Tale

The documentary will be presented in two formats, catering to a wide audience. A half-hour broadcast episode will air across the Midwest, while an extended one-hour documentary will be available exclusively on Discover Wisconsin’s YouTube channel and social media platforms. This dual approach aims to engage viewers with both a concise overview and a more in-depth exploration of the events surrounding the Edmund Fitzgerald’s sinking.

Regan Ernst, a producer at Discover Mediaworks, emphasized the importance of this project. “This project is one of the most meaningful and fascinating documentaries we’ve ever produced,” Ernst stated. He noted that the story of the Edmund Fitzgerald continues to resonate with many people, highlighting the human emotions and mysteries intertwined with the vessel’s fate. The documentary aims to uncover these layers, providing a comprehensive look at the enduring legacy of the ship.

The official trailer is now available on Discover Wisconsin’s YouTube channel, as well as on their social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and X. The broadcast premiere of the half-hour episode is set for November 10 at 6:30 p.m., followed by the full one-hour documentary at 8:00 p.m. on the same day. Additional airings of the half-hour episode are scheduled for November 15 and 16.

This special presentation is the result of a collaborative effort involving several partners, including Enbridge, the University of Wisconsin–Madison, the Wisconsin Counties Association, the Public Finance Authority Foundation, and Badger Talks. Their support has been instrumental in bringing this significant project to fruition, ensuring that the story of the Edmund Fitzgerald is told with the depth and respect it deserves.

As the premiere date approaches, anticipation builds for a documentary that promises to shed new light on a maritime tragedy that has captivated audiences for decades.
