New Dredge Construction Boosts Local Economy

PANAMA CITY, Fla. — The Eastern Shipbuilding Group (ESG) has officially commenced construction on a new vessel, marking a significant milestone with a keel laying ceremony at Allanton Shipyard. The 3010 Donnelly, a medium-class hopper dredge, is designed to enhance national security efforts. This project not only underscores ESG’s expertise but also promises to create substantial job opportunities in the Bay County area.

Significant Economic Impact

The collaboration between ESG, Royal IHC, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is set to generate approximately 300 jobs, which translates to significant economic benefits for the community.

D’Isernia emphasized the broader implications of this project, stating, “You think that’s 300 families, so that’s a lot of mouths, that’s a lot of economic prosperity.” The construction of the 3010 Donnelly not only reinforces the shipyard’s reputation but also strengthens the local economy by providing stable employment opportunities. As the project progresses, the community can expect a boost in economic activity, further solidifying Bay County’s role in the maritime industry.
