New LNG Carrier Elisa Halcyon Delivered to EDF
New LNG Carrier Elisa Halcyon Delivered

The Elisa Halcyon, a state-of-the-art liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, has officially been completed and delivered by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in Korea on October 31. This new vessel, commissioned by France LNG Shipping SAS, will serve a long-term charter of up to 20 years with EDF LNG Shipping SAS, facilitating efficient LNG transportation managed by Gazocean.
Innovative Features Enhance Efficiency
The Elisa Halcyon stands out for its advanced engineering and environmental considerations. It is powered by a highly efficient WinGD dual-fuel slow-speed diesel engine, which allows the vessel to utilize both fuel oil and boil-off gas—natural gas that vaporizes during transit. This dual-fuel capability not only optimizes fuel consumption but also contributes to reduced emissions.
One of the notable features of the Elisa Halcyon is its impressive cargo tank capacity. The vessel is designed with a 174,000-cubic-meter membrane-type cargo tank that boasts excellent insulation properties, significantly minimizing the loss of boil-off gas. To further enhance its operational efficiency, the ship is equipped with a re-liquefaction system developed by Air Liquide. This innovative technology converts excess boil-off gas back into a liquid state, thereby improving the vessel’s overall sustainability and reducing its environmental footprint.
In terms of specifications, the Elisa Halcyon measures approximately 297.2 meters in length and 46.4 meters in breadth. It is registered in France and is a product of the collaborative efforts of leading companies in the LNG sector, including NYK and Geogas LNG SAS, who jointly fund France LNG Shipping SAS.
Partnerships and Future Prospects
The establishment of the Elisa Halcyon is a significant milestone for all parties involved. France LNG Shipping SAS is a joint venture that combines the expertise of NYK and Geogas LNG SAS, a company recognized for its extensive experience in LNG vessel ownership and transportation, spanning over 40 years. This partnership aims to enhance the reliability and efficiency of LNG shipping in France and beyond.
EDF LNG Shipping SAS, the charterer of the Elisa Halcyon, is a subsidiary of the EDF Group, which plays a crucial role in the energy sector. The collaboration with Gazocean, a specialized ship management company also jointly owned by NYK and Geogas LNG, ensures that the vessel will be managed by experts in LNG transportation, guaranteeing optimal performance and adherence to environmental standards.
The successful delivery of Elisa Halcyon not only underscores advancements in LNG shipping technology but also highlights a commitment to sustainable practices within the industry. The vessel is set to make a significant contribution to the global energy landscape in the years to come.
