New Pacific Launches First Shipbuilding Program Featuring Two Tugboats for American Marine Corporation
New Pacific Industrial (NP) has embarked on its shipbuilding journey with the construction of two 122-foot American Class tugboats for American Marine Corporation (AMC) at its Vancouver waterfront facility. These vessels, designed by the renowned naval architecture and marine engineering firm Glosten, also signify a significant milestone for American Marine as it celebrates 50 years in the industry.
American Marine’s President and Owner, Bob Shahnazarian, expressed the importance of this new-build project, stating, “As American Marine celebrates half a century in business, our first new-build tug represents an important milestone and an investment in the next generation of our operations.” The collaboration between American Marine, Glosten, and New Pacific ensures a seamless transition from design to construction, fulfilling the operational requirements set forth by the company.

New Pacific’s First Build at Vancouver Waterfront
The construction of these tugboats at New Pacific’s Vancouver waterfront facility pays homage to the site’s rich industrial history, formerly known as the Kaiser Shipyards during World War II. With a team comprising CEO Joe Corvelli, COO Chris Palmer, and CCO Peter Roney, New Pacific leverages over 90 years of combined leadership experience in shipbuilding, marine operations, and complex programs to propel the shipbuilding legacy forward.
Chris Palmer, COO of New Pacific, emphasized the company’s role in enhancing the Pacific region’s industrial capabilities by leveraging the existing workforce and supplier ecosystem. The 180,000+ square-foot Columbia River facility boasts state-of-the-art infrastructure, including high-bay fabrication space, heavy-lift crane capacity, and rail and barge access, to support large-scale maritime programs effectively.
Glosten’s Innovative Vessel Design and Engineering
Glosten’s expertise in vessel design and engineering shines through in the development of the CT-120, a cutting-edge oceangoing line-haul tug concept tailored for long-distance towing and challenging offshore operations. Collaborating with American Marine and New Pacific, Glosten customized the design to meet AMC’s specific operational needs while upholding the CT-120’s focus on range, towing capacity, constructability, and operational efficiency.
Purpose-Built Tugs for American Marine’s Operations
The 122-foot, 499 GT tugboats will feature twin Wabtec marine diesel engines, each rated at 3,017 horsepower, paired with a REINTJES reverse-reduction gearbox for optimal performance. Equipped with advanced propulsion systems, including Nautican nozzles and triple-rudder systems, these tugs will deliver exceptional maneuverability and bollard pull exceeding 85 metric tons. The vessels are set to be outfitted with top-of-the-line towing winches, headline winches, and other essential equipment supplied by industry-leading manufacturers.
