New Subsea Vessel Launched for Rem Offshore
The second energy subsea construction vessel (ESCV) for Norwegian shipping company Rem Offshore has officially been launched at a shipyard in Vietnam. Named REM Ocean, this vessel marks a significant milestone in the company’s ongoing commitment to subsea operations. Once completed in 2027, it will enter an eight-year contract with DeepOcean, focusing on subsea inspection, maintenance, and repair services for Equinor.
Key Features and Specifications of REM Ocean
Launched on March 27, 2026, at the Song Cam yard in Vietnam, REM Ocean is a product of collaboration between DeepOcean, Rem Offshore, Skipsteknisk, and other key suppliers. The vessel measures 111.7 meters in length and is designed with advanced technology to enhance subsea operations. It will be equipped with dual-fuel engines that can operate on bio-methanol and biodiesel, alongside a battery energy storage system and regenerative energy systems, promoting sustainability in offshore operations.
One of the standout features of REM Ocean is its autonomous inspection drone (AID), which aims to accelerate the digitalization of subsea asset inspections. The vessel will also include a comprehensive suite of equipment, such as Brunvoll’s thruster package, a 250-ton electrical crane, and two electric work-class remotely operated vehicles (WROVs) housed in dedicated hangars. Additionally, it boasts a substantial outside deck area of 1,000 square meters and an inside hangar area of 350 square meters, providing ample space for operations and accommodation for up to 120 personnel.
