NextGeo wins $23m Prysmian deal
Next Geosolutions Secures €20 Million in New Contracts

Next Geosolutions (NextGeo), a leader in marine geoscience and offshore construction support, has landed two significant contracts totaling €20 million ($23 million) from Prysmian, a prominent Italian cabling company. These contracts will bolster long-term seabed operations for critical European power transmission and wind energy initiatives, marking a notable advancement in NextGeo’s portfolio.
Key Projects Boosting Energy Transition Efforts
The first of the two contracts focuses on route preparation for the Bay of Biscay High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) interconnector. This ambitious subsea cable project aims to connect France and Spain, with operations slated to take place from 2025 to 2027. This infrastructure is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing energy connectivity between the two nations.
The second contract encompasses geophysical assessments and unexploded ordnance (UXO) surveys in the waters off the Netherlands. These surveys will be conducted along the predetermined export cable routes for two large offshore wind projects: IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwijk 1. Scheduled to occur between 2026 and 2027, this work is essential for ensuring the safe installation of cables that will support the growing demand for renewable energy.
NextGeo, which is part of the Naples-based shipping group Marnavi, highlighted that securing these contracts not only strengthens its order book but also emphasizes its expanding role in the development of renewable energy infrastructure. CEO Giovanni Ranieri expressed pride in the company’s positioning within the marine geoscience sector, noting that their capabilities are well-suited for complex and impactful projects like the Bay of Biscay interconnector and the Dutch offshore wind farms.
Earlier in the year, NextGeo was awarded a contract valued at approximately €10 million from Prysmian to conduct UXO surveys and clearance in German and Dutch waters. This contract supports the NeuConnect Interconnector, a subsea cable system designed to link the UK and Germany, further solidifying NextGeo’s reputation in the marine geoscience field.
