NMDC Inaugurates 148-Meter Heavy-Duty Dredger in China
Abu Dhabi-based NMDC Group recently unveiled its latest addition to its fleet of vessels, the Abu Al Bakhoush heavy-duty cutter suction dredger in Nantong, China. This new vessel, built by Jiangsu Haixin Shipping Heavy Industry, marks a significant milestone in the company’s efforts to enhance its capacity for offshore and marine infrastructure projects.
Enhanced Dredging Capabilities
Measuring 148 meters in length with a maximum dredging depth of 38 meters, the Abu Al Bakhoush is a self-propelled vessel equipped with a 7.8 MW cutter and a total installed power of 30,040 kW. These features enable the dredger to handle heavy-duty rock cutting and dredging operations for offshore trenches, navigation channels, and harbors. The vessel’s capabilities will play a crucial role in supporting NMDC Dredging & Marine’s activities in coastal infrastructure, port development, offshore construction, and land reclamation.
Strategic Fleet Expansion
Niels de Bruijn, Chief Executive Officer of NMDC Dredging & Marine, emphasized the significance of the Abu Al Bakhoush in enhancing the company’s dredging capabilities. He highlighted the vessel’s high installed power and heavy-duty rock-cutting capabilities, essential for operating in challenging marine environments. Additionally, the dredger is classified by Bureau Veritas and holds GREEN PASSPORT and CYBER RESILIENT certifications, ensuring compliance with international standards.
The inauguration of the Abu Al Bakhoush is part of NMDC Group’s ongoing fleet expansion program, aimed at increasing its capacity to undertake large-scale marine and offshore infrastructure projects globally. This strategic move reaffirms the company’s commitment to excellence in the maritime industry and positions NMDC Group as a key player in the field of dredging and marine services.
