NYK Group Unveils 2024 TNFD Report on Environmental Impact

The NYK Group has released its “NYK Group TNFD Report 2024 — A Passion for Planetary Wellbeing,” highlighting its commitment to environmental sustainability. Published on March 17, the report aligns with the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) recommendations, aiming to assess and disclose the impact of corporate activities on biodiversity and the natural environment. The report emphasizes the shipping sector, detailing the company’s initiatives to protect natural capital and enhance corporate sustainability.

Focus on Sustainable Shipping Practices

The report centers on the NYK Group’s core business of international shipping and introduces the LEAP approach developed by TNFD. This integrated method assesses nature-related risks and opportunities through four phases: Locate, Evaluate, Assess, and Prepare. A key feature of the report is the “Analysis of Priority Locations,” which examines ocean areas where NYK vessels operate. By analyzing vessel positional data from the past year alongside 16 indicators related to natural capital, the report identifies critical ocean areas that require focused attention.
