Oceania Cruises Celebrates Keel-Laying of New Ship, Oceania Sonata
Oceania Cruises marked a significant milestone in the luxury cruise industry with the keel-laying ceremony of its latest ship, *Oceania Sonata*, at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy. This next-generation vessel is set to embark on its maiden voyage in August 2027, representing a new chapter in Oceania’s commitment to redefining luxury travel. The *Oceania Sonata* will be the ninth ship in the Oceania fleet, following the recent launches of the Allura class vessels, *Oceania Vista* and *Oceania Allura*, which debuted in 2023 and 2025, respectively.
The *Oceania Sonata* is part of a broader expansion plan that includes three sister ships: *Oceania Arietta*, scheduled for delivery in 2029, and two unnamed Sonata class vessels expected in 2032 and 2035. Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer of Oceania Cruises, expressed pride in this achievement, highlighting the dedication and expertise of the Fincantieri team. He stated, “This milestone is the result of the extraordinary dedication and expertise of the Fincantieri team—shipbuilders, engineers, designers, and countless others whose skill and passion transform our vision into reality.”
Innovative Features and Exclusive Accommodations
The *Oceania Sonata* will weigh 86,000 tons and accommodate 1,390 guests, ensuring an exclusive experience for travelers. Notably, one-third of the accommodations will be suites, featuring four new two-bedroom Owner’s Suites, along with two innovative categories: the Horizon Suites and the Penthouse Deluxe Suites. This focus on luxury and comfort is a hallmark of Oceania Cruises, which aims to provide a unique and memorable experience for its guests.
In addition to its luxurious accommodations, the *Oceania Sonata* will introduce two new culinary experiences. The exclusive fine-dining restaurant, La Table par Maîtres Cuisiniers de France, promises to elevate onboard dining to new heights. Additionally, Nikkei Kitchen will offer a vibrant fusion of Peruvian flavors and refined Japanese culinary techniques, showcasing the line’s commitment to diverse and high-quality dining options.
Harry Sommer, President and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd, along with other key executives, attended the keel-laying ceremony, emphasizing the importance of this event for both Oceania Cruises and Fincantieri. Luigi Matarazzo, General Manager of Fincantieri Merchant Ships Division, remarked, “The keel laying for *Oceania Sonata* marks an important milestone not only for Oceania Cruises and Fincantieri but for the entire luxury cruise industry.” He highlighted the innovation and craftsmanship that define their partnership, underscoring the technical excellence achieved through the successful construction of the Allura Class vessels.
