Oceania Cruises has officially commenced the construction of its newest ship, the Oceania Sonata, with a keel laying ceremony held at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy. This significant event marks the beginning of a new chapter in luxury cruising, as the ship is set to debut in August 2027. With a capacity of 1,390 passengers and a size of 86,000 gross tons, the Oceania Sonata promises to elevate the cruising experience with innovative culinary offerings and luxurious amenities.
Innovative Features and Culinary Experiences
The Oceania Sonata will introduce two unique dining experiences that aim to redefine luxury at sea. One of the standout features will be La Table par Maîtres Cuisiniers de France, touted as the most exclusive fine-dining restaurant on the ocean. This venue will showcase exquisite French cuisine, crafted by renowned chefs. Additionally, the ship will feature Nikkei Kitchen, which will blend the vibrant flavors of Peruvian cuisine with refined Japanese culinary techniques, offering guests a diverse and exciting dining experience.
Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer of Oceania Cruises, expressed pride in this milestone, stating, “Oceania Sonata embodies the next chapter in our legacy of redefining luxury travel.” He emphasized the dedication and expertise of the Fincantieri team, acknowledging their role in transforming the vision of the ship into reality. Luigi Matarazzo, General Manager of Fincantieri Merchant Ships Division, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of this keel laying for both Oceania Cruises and the luxury cruise industry as a whole. He noted that the ship represents the innovation and craftsmanship that have characterized their longstanding partnership.
The Oceania Sonata will be the ninth addition to Oceania’s fleet, joining three sister ships, including Oceania Arietta, which are set to launch in the coming years. With its focus on luxury and culinary excellence, the Oceania Sonata is poised to make a significant impact in the world of cruise travel.
