Technical Fault Grounds Finnøy Ferry ‘Ombo’
The Finnøy ferry ‘Ombo’ has been taken out of service due to a technical fault, which occurred on March 3, 2026. This incident leaves only the ‘Hidle’ ferry operational for the time being. As a response to the disruption, an additional sailing has been introduced from Judaberg to Helgøy at 10:20 a.m. Passengers will need to rely on an alternative ferry route until further notice, as the ‘Ombo’ will remain unavailable for the foreseeable future.
Repairs Underway Following Storm Damage
On January 24, 2026, the ‘Ombo‘ was damaged during a storm and has been stationed at Bekhus Quay in Stavanger for repairs since January 28. It is expected to be out of service for at least a week. To accommodate affected passengers, the battery-operated ferry ‘Hella’ has taken over the route from Judaberg to Stavanger. The ‘Hella’ typically operates on the Hella-Vangsnes-Dragsvik route in Sogn. On January 27, one departure from Judaberg was canceled due to technical challenges, and additional cancellations occurred on January 27 at 7:50 a.m. from Judaberg and 8:05 a.m. from Fogn, both attributed to the ferry’s need for charging. Future departures may also be impacted by these charging requirements.
