OVP Shipping Expands Fleet with New Containerships

Hong Kong-based OVP Shipping has made a significant move to enhance its capacity by ordering four new 4,350 TEU containerships from Taizhou Jianxing Heavy Industry. This strategic investment aims to strengthen OVP’s operations along critical Belt and Road trade routes. The first vessel is expected to be delivered in the second quarter of 2027, with the remaining ships scheduled for delivery between late 2027 and 2028.
Strengthening Trade Routes
The newly ordered mid-sized vessels will primarily serve routes connecting China to North Africa, the Middle East, and the Red Sea. This expansion is designed to bolster OVP’s existing network that links China, Southeast Asia, Turkey, and North Africa. According to William Wang, managing director of OVP Shipping, these ships are specifically engineered for these trade lanes, ensuring maximum cargo efficiency while adhering to the latest environmental regulations.
Wang emphasized the importance of this fleet expansion, stating, “These 4,350 TEU vessels constitute the core capacity for our Belt & Road service upgrade.” He noted that once operational, the new ships will establish a reliable and stable logistics network, facilitating efficient, low-carbon transportation solutions for customers. This move marks a pivotal step for OVP, which has primarily relied on chartered vessels since its establishment in 2020.
Currently ranked 67th in Alphaliner’s global top 100 carriers, OVP Shipping has focused on trades related to China, including services extending into Russia. The company is committed to further expanding its fleet in collaboration with global partners, aiming to enhance its competitive edge in the shipping industry.
Taizhou Jianxing’s Role in Shipbuilding
Taizhou Jianxing Heavy Industry, formerly known as Zhejiang Kaihang Shipbuilding Industry, has a history of supplying container ships to various domestic clients, including Ningbo Ocean Shipping (NBOSCO) and Xiamen Jixiang Shipping. The shipyard is also set to construct Multi-Purpose Vessels (MPPs) for Norden’s project cargo division, showcasing its capability in the maritime construction sector.
This partnership between OVP Shipping and Taizhou Jianxing highlights a growing trend in the shipping industry, where companies are investing in new vessels to meet increasing demand and improve operational efficiency. As global trade continues to evolve, OVP’s strategic fleet expansion positions it well to navigate the complexities of international shipping and logistics.
