The steel-cutting ceremony, held at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KSEW), marks a significant step towards enhancing Pakistan’s shipbuilding capacity and maritime infrastructure.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry inaugurates the project, emphasizing its strategic importance in revitalizing the shipping and shipbuilding sectors to align with national economic priorities. The use of domestic resources demonstrates Pakistan’s growing capabilities in the shipbuilding industry, reducing reliance on foreign carriers and strengthening maritime infrastructure.

Pakistan National Shipping Corporation Launches New Container Vessel Construction

The addition of the 1,100-TEU vessel to the PNSC fleet is expected to conserve foreign exchange by decreasing freight payments abroad and supporting Pakistan’s import-export trade. With nearly 95 percent of the country’s trade volume transported by sea, the new container vessel will enhance PNSC’s operational capacity, competitiveness, and contribute to Pakistan’s trade logistics amidst global supply chain uncertainties.
