Patrickswell Housing Project Receives Green Light
Limerick City and County Council has officially approved a significant social housing initiative in Patrickswell, with construction expected to commence soon. The local authority has entered into an €8.263 million contract with M Fitzgibbon Contractors Ltd to develop 24 new homes at Barnakyle, funded through the Social Housing Investment Programme (SHIP).
Details of the Housing Development
The new housing project will feature a diverse array of homes designed to meet the needs of various family sizes. The development will include eight two-bedroom homes, 11 three-bedroom homes, and five four-bedroom houses. This mix aims to provide suitable accommodation for residents in the Patrickswell area, addressing the growing demand for housing.
In addition to the homes, the project encompasses a comprehensive upgrade of local infrastructure. New roads will be constructed to connect the housing site to Clarina Road, facilitating access for future developments in the vicinity. The initiative also includes the installation of footpaths, car parking, street lighting, and essential utility connections. Furthermore, landscaping efforts will be made to seamlessly integrate the new development into the existing community.
Community Impact and Future Outlook
Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, expressed his support for the investment, describing it as a crucial step for the village of Patrickswell. He emphasized that this project, along with recent land acquisitions by the Council, reflects a “coordinated and forward-looking approach” to the area’s growth. The Mayor’s sentiments were echoed by Príomh Chomhairleoir, Cllr Catherine Slattery, who highlighted the pressing demand for housing in the region. She stated that these 24 homes will significantly benefit local families.
Construction is set to begin shortly, with the project anticipated to be completed by the end of 2027. This development marks a vital advancement in addressing housing needs in Patrickswell and enhancing the community’s infrastructure.
