PM Modi praises progress in the green energy sector

India's Green Energy Milestone: PM Modi Celebrates Solar Achievements and International Collaboration

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently lauded India’s remarkable strides in the green energy sector, particularly in solar energy, during his speech at the inaugural International Solar Festival held at Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam. Modi highlighted India’s notable accomplishment as the first G20 nation to fulfill its Paris Agreement commitments, underscoring the significant role of solar energy in achieving these targets. Over the past decade, India’s solar energy capacity has surged 33-fold, a testament to the country’s commitment to advancing green energy solutions.

The Prime Minister emphasized that this rapid growth in solar capacity is pivotal for India’s future energy goals. He projected that the momentum in solar energy will help the nation meet its ambitious target of 500 gigawatts of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. Modi credited the success to a strategic approach that emphasizes awareness, availability, and affordability—principles that are essential for promoting solar energy both domestically and globally.

The International Solar Festival aims to unite the world in recognizing the sun’s potential for a sustainable future. Modi noted the festival’s role in bringing together global efforts to build a cleaner planet, drawing inspiration from ancient Vedic teachings about the sun. The event features sessions led by industry experts on climate goals, showcases from the International Solar Alliance (ISA) member countries, and performances by renowned artists, including AR Rahman.

The ISA, founded during the 2015 Paris Climate Conference, has grown from a modest initiative to a robust coalition with 100 member countries and 19 additional nations in the process of joining. Modi described the ISA’s evolution as a “giant tree” that supports the vision of a unified global solar grid. This progress reflects the global commitment to advancing solar energy and fostering international collaboration for a sustainable future.
