The incident occurred on February 21 when a stone-laden ferry collided with a passenger vessel, leading to the sinking of the latter. In response, the Prime Minister has mandated immediate measures to support rescue efforts and ensure the safety of inland waterway transport.
Government Response and Rescue Operations
Upon learning of the accident, Prime Minister Chinh directed relevant agencies to express condolences to the victims’ families and to coordinate a comprehensive response. The Ministry of Public Security has been instructed to lead the investigation, intensifying inspections of inland waterway transport operations. This includes addressing issues such as overloading and ensuring compliance with passenger limits. The responsibilities of vessel owners and transport companies will also be scrutinized to prevent future incidents.
Strengthening Safety Regulations Nationwide
