Propspeed achieves exceptional results in third-party fuel efficiency test

World-Leading Commercial Fishing Shipbuilder Padmos Finds Propspeed Reduces Fuel Consumption and Load

Auckland, New Zealand – Propspeed, a leading innovator in underwater foul-release coatings, announced today that an independent test by Netherlands-based shipbuilder Padmos and data-driven vessel optimization firm Techbinder demonstrated significant benefits of the Propspeed system. The test results showed that Propspeed notably reduced fuel and power consumption as well as the load on the vessel.

The test involved the commercial fishing vessel Windroos navigating a set course twice—once without Propspeed coating and once with it applied. After the application of Propspeed, Windroos saw a 7.5% reduction in fuel consumption and a 4.7% decrease in kilowatt usage at cruising speed compared to a clean propeller.

“The data we gathered suggest a clear improvement in the vessel’s performance with Propspeed from the day it was applied,” said Ing. Maurits van Maaren, Naval Architect at Padmos. “Impressed by these results, we’re now implementing Propspeed on all our vessels and recommending it to our customers.”

Marcus Hamilton, CEO of Propspeed, added, “While we have conducted extensive testing of our products, partnering with a commercial operator to reach the same conclusion through data is an important milestone. Padmos and Techbinder’s involvement has helped us deliver a data-driven, scientific study. Their work supports our assertion that Propspeed is a high-impact, low-investment, energy-saving technology that enhances vessel efficiency and environmental sustainability.”

Techbinder used their Pharos Compact to measure torque, RPM of the shaft, and power, collecting and analyzing data on engine performance and shaft measurements.

About Propspeed

The Propspeed foul-release coating system is a high-impact, low-investment Energy Saving Technology (EST) with a compelling ROI. Designed for application to running gear and underwater metals, the biocide-free foul-release coating system is proven to enhance vessel efficiency and environmental sustainability by reducing fuel and power consumption from the day it is applied. Unlike traditional bio-fouling, which accumulates on a vessel’s running gear over time and significantly impacts performance, the hydrophobic nature of Propspeed maintains vessel efficiency throughout its service cycle, preventing the negative impact of fouling on the vessel’s operation.
