Purus in for more midsize gas carriers
Purus Marine Expands Fleet with New Gas Carrier Orders
UK-based Purus Marine has expanded its fleet by ordering two additional medium-sized gas carriers from Hyundai Mipo Dockyard. This move increases their fleet to a total of six vessels, each with a capacity of 45,000 cubic meters. The company initially ordered four of these ships in May 2023, with deliveries scheduled for 2025 and 2026. They also secured options for two more vessels, which have now been confirmed.
The original contract was priced at $68.69 million per unit, while the latest two ships are estimated to cost around $74.5 million each. Industry estimates suggest these new vessels will be delivered in the first half of 2027. Purus Marine, established in 2020 and led by Julian Proctor, has quickly made its mark in the shipping industry with over 60 deals across various segments, including ammonia, LNG, offshore wind, carbon capture, and electric ferries.
Purus Marine has also increased its orderbook for very large ethane carriers at Hyundai Heavy Industries to three vessels earlier this year, further solidifying its presence in the maritime sector.
