Qatar Marine Facility Built by Hanwha Ocean’s Oil Production Facility Begins Operations
Hanwha Ocean has made significant strides in the oil production sector with the successful launch of its first fixed oil production facility in Qatar. Announced on December 18, the facility began producing oil on December 15, two weeks ahead of schedule. This achievement marks a pivotal moment for Hanwha Ocean, showcasing its capabilities in the marine plant manufacturing industry. The facility is located at the Al-Shaheen oil field, recognized as the world’s largest offshore oil field.
Successful Installation and Production Timeline
Hanwha Ocean secured the contract for this fixed oil production facility from Qatar’s National Oil Company (NOC) in 2021. The construction of the facility was completed at Hanwha’s Geoje plant in July. Following its completion, the facility was transported to the Al-Shaheen oil field, where it underwent a series of critical installations. Over the next three months, the facility underwent extensive piping and electrical connection work. This included connecting both the upper and lower structures, as well as surrounding facilities.
The commissioning of various systems was also part of this process. This meticulous preparation paved the way for the facility to enter full-scale production. The early commencement of oil production is a testament to the efficiency and expertise of Hanwha Ocean’s team. It highlights the company’s commitment to delivering high-quality marine plants that meet the demands of the global oil market.
Future Prospects and Strategic Partnerships
The successful launch of the oil production facility is not just a milestone for Hanwha Ocean; it also opens doors for future opportunities. Qatar is expected to place additional orders for fixed oil and gas production facilities in the coming years. Hanwha Ocean is optimistic about the positive impacts this will have on its business expansion. Philippe Levy, the Head of Hanwha Ocean’s Marine Business Division, emphasized the importance of collaboration in this project.
He noted that Hanwha Ocean and NOC formed a “one team” approach to manage the installation effectively. This collaborative effort established a rapid decision-making system that streamlined the work process. The swift execution has been praised as a successful model for marine plant management. As Hanwha Ocean continues to build on this success, it aims to strengthen its position in the marine plant manufacturing sector and enhance its partnerships in the oil and gas industry.
