Rem Offshore Celebrates Keel-Laying of New Subsea Vessel

Norwegian shipping company Rem Offshore has marked a significant milestone with the keel-laying ceremony for its second energy subsea construction vessel (ESCV), REM Ocean. The event took place on June 27 at the Song Cam shipyard in Vietnam, coinciding with the launch celebration of the first vessel, REM Pioneer. Scheduled for delivery in 2027, REM Ocean will operate under a long-term contract with DeepOcean, focusing on subsea inspection, maintenance, and repair (IMR) services for Equinor.
Innovative Features of REM Ocean
REM Ocean is designed to be a cutting-edge vessel, featuring dual-fuel engines that can operate on bio-methanol and biodiesel. This eco-friendly approach is complemented by a battery energy storage system and regenerative energy systems, reflecting the industry’s shift towards sustainability. The vessel, measuring 111.7 meters in length, is a product of collaboration between DeepOcean, Rem Offshore, Skipsteknisk, and other key suppliers.
Equipped with advanced technology, REM Ocean will include an autonomous inspection drone (AID) aimed at enhancing the digitalization of subsea asset inspections. The vessel will also boast a comprehensive suite of equipment, including Brunvoll’s thruster package, a 250-ton electrical crane, and two electric work-class remotely operated vehicles (WROVs) housed in dedicated hangars. Additionally, it will feature a spacious 1,000-square meter outdoor deck area and a 350-square meter indoor hangar, providing accommodation for up to 120 personnel.
The keel-laying ceremony not only signifies the progress of REM Ocean but also highlights Rem Offshore’s commitment to advancing subsea construction capabilities in the energy sector. As the company prepares for the future, the integration of innovative technologies and sustainable practices positions it as a leader in the maritime industry.
