Royal Caribbean Breaks Ground on New Cruise Terminal in Miami
Royal Caribbean Group has officially commenced construction on a new cruise terminal at PortMiami, marking a significant milestone in the expansion of the cruise industry in the region. The groundbreaking ceremony took place today, following the demolition of Terminal G, which was completed last summer and fall. This new facility aims to accommodate the growing number of passengers traveling with Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, and Silversea, with a capacity to serve ships carrying up to 7,000 passengers.
The new terminal is projected to open its doors in late 2027 and will be designed to meet LEED certification standards, emphasizing sustainability and environmental responsibility. The construction will be undertaken by Lemartec-NV2A, a company known for its work on Norwegian Cruise Line’s Terminal B at the same port. This development is part of Royal Caribbean’s ongoing commitment to enhancing passenger experience and operational efficiency at one of the busiest cruise ports in the world.
Innovative Design to Enhance Passenger Flow
The design of the new Terminal G incorporates a multi-level structure that strategically separates passenger traffic. This innovative layout aims to minimize congestion, facilitating smoother transitions for both departing and arriving cruise passengers. By organizing passenger flow across different floors, the terminal will enhance the overall experience for travelers, ensuring that boarding and disembarking processes are more efficient.
In addition to the terminal itself, a multi-story parking garage will be constructed, featuring ground-level bus parking and designated drop-off areas for passengers. This infrastructure will support the anticipated increase in passenger volume and improve accessibility for those traveling to and from the terminal.
This new terminal will be the second facility operated by Royal Caribbean Group at PortMiami, complementing Terminal A, which opened in November 2018. The addition of Terminal G reflects the growing demand for cruise travel and the company’s dedication to providing state-of-the-art facilities that cater to the needs of modern travelers.
As the cruise industry continues to rebound, the development of this terminal is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing Miami’s status as a premier cruise destination. With its focus on sustainability and passenger experience, the new Terminal G is set to redefine the standards for cruise terminals worldwide.
