Upcoming Inspection Campaign on Crew Wages and Seafarers' Employment Agreements
A coordinated Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) focusing on Crew Wages and Seafarers’ Employment Agreements (MLC, 2006) is set to be launched by Member Authorities of the Tokyo and Paris Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) on Port State Control, alongside those in the Indian Ocean and Black Sea regions. The campaign will take place from September 1 to November 30, 2024, aiming to assess compliance with the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) requirements.
Negotiations between Indian Ports Association and labor unions start
During the three-month campaign, Port State Control Officers will use a standardized questionnaire to evaluate whether ships are adhering to regulations concerning crew wages, employment agreements, and financial securities. The campaign seeks not only to ensure compliance but also to raise awareness within the shipping industry about the critical importance of these MLC provisions.
The findings from this campaign will be meticulously analyzed and reported to the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for further action and potential policy adjustments.
