RS representative takes part in the Regional Dialogue on Sustainable Maritime Connectivity
RS Contributes to 2024 Asia-Pacific Maritime Sustainability Discussions
Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) participated in the 2024 Asia-Pacific Regional Dialogue on Sustainable Maritime Connectivity, held in Nadi, Fiji. This event, which aligned with the 46th Pacific Maritime Transport Alliance Conference, was organized by the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in collaboration with the Pacific Community and the Fiji Ports Corporation. The dialogue brought together over 100 participants, including delegates from 23 ESCAP member states, industry representatives, and experts, to discuss key challenges and opportunities in the maritime sector.
During the dialogue, participants shared insights into the current state of the shipping industry in the Asia-Pacific region. The discussions centered on enhancing maritime connectivity, decarbonizing the shipping sector, and advancing smart port technologies. Additionally, there was a focus on disaster resilience and climate change adaptation, which are critical issues for the region. The event highlighted the importance of establishing long-term maritime policies, fostering regional partnerships, and promoting cooperation with stakeholders, including shipping companies, port operators, and local communities.
RS develops requirements for the safe carriage of industrial personnel
RS’s involvement in this dialogue aligns with its broader commitment to advancing maritime safety and environmental standards. The organization continues to expand its services in engineering, consulting, and certification, contributing to the global effort to improve maritime connectivity and sustainability. Looking ahead, ESCAP announced a new project aimed at enhancing transport connectivity and accessibility for port cities in Asia-Pacific Small Island Developing States, underscoring the ongoing commitment to addressing the region’s unique challenges. The next regional dialogue is scheduled for 2025, with a focus on South, Southwest, and Central Asian countries.
