Saudi Arabia Unveils New Offshore Rig Project

International Maritime Industries (IMI) has officially partnered with Aro Drilling to construct a new offshore drilling rig, dubbed “Kingdom 4,” in Saudi Arabia. This significant announcement was made during the Saudi Maritime and Logistics Congress held in Dammam. The collaboration aims to bolster Aro’s operations in the region while reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s position as a leader in the maritime industry.

Strategic Partnership and Facility Capabilities

The agreement between IMI and Aro Drilling is designed to enhance their strategic partnership, focusing on expanding Aro’s operational capabilities in Saudi Arabian waters. This initiative is expected to contribute significantly to the Kingdom’s maritime sector, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

IMI operates a state-of-the-art facility spanning 12 million square meters in Ras Al-Khair. This facility is equipped to construct up to six offshore drilling rigs annually, along with 25 offshore support vessels and 18 large commercial vessels. These vessels include a variety of types, such as chemical tankers, bulk carriers, product tankers, and very large crude carriers (VLCCs).

In addition to construction, the facility will also provide maintenance and repair services for a substantial number of vessels. It is capable of servicing up to 250 vessels and 15 drilling rigs each year, further solidifying its role in supporting the maritime industry in the region. The Kingdom’s investment in such infrastructure highlights its commitment to advancing its maritime capabilities and fostering economic growth through enhanced maritime operations.
