Scorpio Tankers Secures Major Charter Deal
Scorpio Tankers, based in Monaco, has successfully secured five-year charters for two of its LR2 product carriers at an impressive rate of $29,000 per day. The company announced that the 2015-built vessels, STI Rose and STI Alexis, will be chartered to an undisclosed client, with the contract set to commence in the first quarter of 2026. This agreement marks a significant milestone for the New York-listed shipping firm.
Details of the Charter Agreement
The two vessels involved in this charter deal are part of Scorpio’s extensive fleet, which consists of 93 product tankers, including 37 LR2s, 42 medium-range (MR) tankers, and 14 handymax units. The average age of Scorpio’s fleet is 9.8 years. This new charter agreement follows an earlier attempt in September 2025, when STI Rose was booked by Swiss-based AB Commodities. However, that deal fell through due to Scorpio’s decision not to deliver the vessels in accordance with the charter parties, as reported by industry sources.
Under the leadership of Emanuele Lauro, Scorpio Tankers continues to expand its operations. In addition to the recent charter agreements, the company has also reached arrangements for four new MR vessels, alongside two VLCCs and additional LR2s. These new builds are expected to be delivered between 2026 and the latter half of 2028, further strengthening Scorpio’s position in the product tanker market.
