Seatrium Secures First EPCIC FSRU Conversion Contract from Excelerate Energy

Seatrium Limited recently revealed a significant development in the maritime industry by signing an FSRU (Floating Storage and Regasification Unit) conversion contract with Excelerate Energy, Inc. The contract, which includes an option for a subsequent agreement, marks a crucial step in enhancing LNG infrastructure capabilities.

Transformation of LNG Carrier into FSRU

Under the EPCIC contract, Seatrium will oversee the conversion process, which involves a comprehensive scope of work. This includes the installation of regasification facilities, LNG transfer and cargo handling systems, utility and offloading systems, electrical and automation systems, marine modifications, and associated infrastructure to convert the LNG carrier into a fully functional FSRU.

Projected Timeline and Impact of the Conversion

Engineering activities are set to kick off in the fourth quarter of 2026, with the expected completion of the conversion in 2028. Once finalized, the FSRU will boast 170,000 cubic meters of LNG storage capacity, TFDE power generation, and reliquefaction technology. This upgrade aims to optimize asset performance and broaden the range of opportunities for the FSRU to serve in the market.
