Self-Propelled Barge Anja 1 Collides with Bridge in Dortmund
On the evening of December 15, the self-propelled barge *Anja 1*, measuring 99 meters in length and registered under MMSI 244710392, collided with the Ellinghauser Straße bridge on the Dortmund-Ems Canal in Dortmund, Germany. At the time of the incident, the vessel was carrying a cargo of scrap metal. The collision resulted in significant damage to the bow of the *Anja 1*, causing water to enter the vessel. Despite the damage, the barge managed to navigate under its own power to Hardenberg, where it was able to moor safely.
Emergency Response and Damage Control
Upon arrival, the local fire brigade assessed the situation and discovered that the water ingress had caused a loss of power on the *Anja 1*. To restore functionality, the brigade utilized a generator from their fireboat. Additionally, they deployed a dewatering pump to manage the flooding within the vessel.
To further mitigate the situation, an excavator was brought in to remove some of the scrap metal cargo. This action reduced the draft of the *Anja 1*, allowing the damaged portion of the bow to rise above the waterline. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or environmental pollution resulting from the incident.

The water police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the allision. The focus will be on determining the cause of the collision and assessing any potential regulatory implications. The incident highlights the importance of navigational safety on busy waterways, particularly in areas with infrastructure such as bridges.
