Shearwater prepares new seismic campaign in Nigerian waters

Shearwater Geoservices Launches Major Seismic Project in Nigeria

Shearwater Geoservices, a Norwegian offshore seismic vessel company, is set to embark on a significant multi-client seismic project off the coast of Nigeria. The initiative, which is slated to begin in late 2025, is supported by substantial industry funding and will be conducted in collaboration with Harvex Geosolutions and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission. Utilizing the advanced vessel SW Duchess, the project aims to enhance exploration efforts in the Western Niger Delta Basin.

Details of the Seismic Survey

The upcoming 3D seismic survey will span an estimated duration of two months and is designed to deliver high-resolution subsurface data crucial for exploration activities. This region is recognized as one of the most promising for oil and gas ventures in West Africa, making the data particularly valuable for supporting future license rounds and exploration decisions.

CEO Irene Waage Basili emphasized the importance of investing in high-quality seismic data to not only facilitate rapid returns but also foster long-term value. “By enabling smarter decisions, we are helping to shape the future of energy security in West Africa and beyond,” she stated. This project marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to optimize resource management and bolster energy initiatives in the region, reflecting an increasing commitment to enhancing the capabilities of the oil and gas sector in Nigeria.
