Shelf Drilling wins rig extension from Eni

Shelf Drilling Secures Key Rig Extension from Eni

UAE-based Shelf Drilling has successfully secured a one-year extension for its rig, the Key Manhattan, from Italian energy company Eni. This extension, valued at approximately $29 million, will ensure the rig remains operational until November 2026, with the possibility of an additional year. The Key Manhattan has been engaged in offshore operations for Eni since November 2023 and will temporarily halt work in August before resuming in September.

Recent Contract Wins for Shelf Drilling

Shelf Drilling’s recent success extends beyond the Key Manhattan rig. In the past week, the company has secured three new contracts for its drilling units. Notably, it received a five-year contract extension for the High Island V rig with Saudi Aramco, a significant player in the energy sector. Additionally, the company has entered into a three-year contract with India’s ONGC for the J.T. Angel rig.

The Key Manhattan, built in 1980, has been a reliable asset for Eni, operating off the coast of Italy. The rig’s current contract will transition seamlessly into the new extension, demonstrating both the rig’s operational efficiency and the strong partnership between Shelf Drilling and Eni. As the energy market continues to evolve, these contract extensions highlight Shelf Drilling’s strategic positioning and commitment to meeting the demands of its clients.

With these recent developments, Shelf Drilling is poised for continued growth and stability in the competitive drilling industry, reinforcing its reputation as a leading provider of offshore drilling services.
