SITC International Expands Fleet with New Orders

SITC International Holdings, a prominent intra-Asia container shipping line, is making significant strides in its fleet enhancement strategy. The Hong Kong-listed company has announced an order for two additional 2,700 TEU vessels from Huanghai Shipbuilding, part of its ongoing efforts to modernize and expand its fleet. The investment of approximately $76.5 million is set to bolster SITC’s operational capabilities by 2029, as the company aims to meet the increasing demands of its intra-Asia network.

Details of the New Orders

The latest contract sees SITC International committing to a total of eight new 2,700 TEU vessels from Huanghai Shipbuilding, following an original deal made in August last year for four ships valued at nearly $153 million. The company had previously exercised options for two additional vessels in October 2025, all at similar price points. The expected delivery timeline for the new ships is scheduled between January and March 2029.

SITC has been a consistent customer of Huanghai Shipbuilding, having ordered ten 1,800 TEU vessels in 2024, with deliveries slated between 2026 and 2028 at a price of about $29 million per ship. This ongoing relationship underscores SITC’s commitment to fleet modernization and capacity expansion. According to Alphaliner data, SITC currently ranks as the 14th largest container shipping operator globally, with a fleet capacity of approximately 186,000 TEU across 120 vessels, of which about 100 are owned outright.

The company’s proactive approach to fleet renewal reflects its strategy to enhance its self-owned fleet and address the growing operational demands within its intra-Asia routes. This expansion is not just crucial for keeping up with market needs but also positions SITC for future growth in a competitive shipping landscape.
