Subsea 7 Secures Major Contract for Buckskin South Expansion

Subsea 7, a prominent player in offshore engineering and services, has been awarded a significant contract by LLOG Exploration for the Buckskin South Expansion project. This project, located in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico, involves the transportation and installation of a subsea umbilical and a rigid flowline at depths reaching up to 2,100 meters. The contract is valued between $50 million and $150 million, marking a substantial addition to Subsea 7’s portfolio.

Project management and engineering activities are set to commence immediately from Subsea 7’s Houston office. Offshore operations are scheduled to take place in 2026 and 2027, indicating a long-term commitment to the project. Craig Broussard, Senior Vice President for Subsea 7 in the Gulf of Mexico, expressed pride in continuing the partnership with LLOG, emphasizing the value they aim to deliver from U.S. developments. This collaboration builds on previous successes, including the Salamanca project, which recently achieved first oil.

Buckskin Field: A Strategic Development in the Gulf of Mexico

The Buckskin field, which began production in 2019, is a deepwater oil and gas site situated approximately 305 kilometers off the Texas coast. This expansion project is strategically designed to leverage existing infrastructure, as it is tied back to Oxy’s Lucius spar platform. The integration of new technology and infrastructure is expected to enhance production capabilities and operational efficiency in the region.

Trump Proposes Renaming Gulf of Mexico as “Gulf of America”

The Buckskin South Expansion is part of a broader trend in the Gulf of Mexico, where companies are increasingly investing in deepwater projects to tap into the region’s rich hydrocarbon resources. The collaboration between Subsea 7 and LLOG Exploration reflects a growing focus on maximizing output from established fields while minimizing environmental impact through the use of advanced subsea technologies.

As the energy sector continues to evolve, projects like Buckskin South are crucial for meeting the increasing demand for oil and gas. The partnership between Subsea 7 and LLOG not only underscores the importance of innovation in offshore engineering but also highlights the ongoing commitment to sustainable practices in the energy industry.
