Swan Defence Plans 550 Hires As Workforce Expands
Swan Defence and Heavy Industries (SDHI) has announced its ambitious plans to expand its shipbuilding, repair, and heavy fabrication operations by hiring more than 550 employees by March 2027. This significant increase in the workforce comes as SDHI has more than doubled its employees over the past 18 months.
Workforce Expansion Across Various Roles
The hiring process at SDHI will encompass both white- and blue-collar roles, including positions in project management, design, supply chain, newbuild, repair and refit operations, as well as heavy fabrication and civil works. The company is actively seeking specialized skilled workers in areas such as precision welding, fitting, and pipework to support its expanding projects.
SWAVALAMBAN Training Programme Boosting Maritime Talent
To support the workforce expansion, SDHI has implemented the SWAVALAMBAN training programme, aimed at developing industry-ready maritime talent. This structured programme, launched last year, combines sourcing, pre-onboarding, technical induction, mentorship, and shop-floor deployment. More than 100 graduate, postgraduate, and diploma engineers and industrial technicians have already completed the training, reducing the time taken to transition trainees from classroom learning to shop-floor deployment by at least 30 percent.
The initiative was developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Indian Maritime University, Gujarat Maritime Board, and 11 Industrial Training Institutes.

The hiring push at SDHI underscores the increasing importance of industry-linked skilling in sectors where expansion relies heavily on specialized technical capabilities.
